There was an interesting article in the news recently about Japan's
antiquated educational system. The article focuses on the heavy burden
students face with the country's standardized test-based educational
system. Although the writer praises Japan's early educational
system from kindergarten to the end of elementary school he shows no
mercy from there on. Here's a few things below of what the writer
says.

"The standardized test-based education system of Japan that starts in
the junior high school years kills any kind of initiative, creativity and
especially thinking outside of the box. Unfortunately, these last three are
what Japan especially needs in the 21st century;perhaps Japan`s most
challenging 100 years yet".

and the writer goes on to say:

"For many years now, Japan has employed this test-based education
system and passing the all important tests is what educators and students
not to mention parents, are focused on. The result of all this test-taking
and stress, is a nation of order takers who have trouble making decisions,
let alone stating an opinion".

It's difficult to disagree with what the writer says here, but I do feel
that there is a positive movement taking place in society with the
acknowledgement and awareness (by many educators) of the problems
of Japan's educational system.

In order for any 'real' dramatic change in Japan's educational
system, the higher powers of governance must avail. Let's hope the
government and future new governments can make the changes
necessary for 21st century educational reform in Japan.
The government is finally going to allow some hospitals in Japan to use drugs
tested in the US, Canada and in Europe. I think this is a good step to take despite
some opposition from the Japan Medical Association.

The war on cancer and disease has to be fought on all fronts if there
is to be any real success in slowing down the progression of a disease. We
need to try all of what's available out there.

The government plan is to allow selected health care institutions to use
anti-cancer treatments and other medications approved in North America and
European countries. It is expected to increase economic growth in Japan and
to address the problem of 'lag' by speeding up the process of authorization.
The government has been criticized over the years for its extended lags.

This is a first step victory for all patients and their doctors.
